Mapping Process: Special Collections for your Practice In-Person
Join us for a look at material from the Women's Art Library, Daphne Oram Archive, Lily Greenham Archive and more to consider how archives can be a resource for creative practice. Reading, listening, touching, watching, we will explore research beyond the printed book.
Taking the idea of ‘process’ as an entry point, we will work across multiple materials to trace the development of a piece of work in the archive. Additionally, we will explore ‘process’ through examples of projects that respond creatively and critically to ‘archiving as practice’; offering new ways to access and dismantle inherent power dynamics within archives.
Students will:
-
Engage with and handle archive material.
-
Participate in close reading to consider how ‘process’ is mapped through archive material.
-
Begin to reflect on how exploring Special Collections critically can help to contextualise and develop their practice.
