Job Shadowing - Reader Services In-Person

Goldsmiths Library serves over 18,000 readers: staff and students of Goldsmiths, Alumni and external users. The Reader Services department is responsible for providing the front facing services. These include:

  • Staffing arrangements and customer service for the 3 service points (Main Help Desk, Special Collections and the Constance Howard Gallery)

  • Membership applications

  • Shelving books

  • Administering processes for missing books, invoices and claimed returned books.

We resolve user enquiries through a variety channels, such as face to face, email, online chat and by telephone. We also liaise with other College departments such as Estates and security to ensure that the Library is a safe and effective study environment for our users.

Work shadowing with the Reader Services department will include some the following activities:

  • An introduction to the Help Desk and the systems we use, with the opportunity to interact with users.

  • Explanation of membership categories and processing an application

  • Shelving books

  • Assisting with the missing and claimed returned book process

Please report to Library helpdesk at start time.
